How to Reduce Stress When Moving – Part 2

The best way to reduce stress when moving is to prevent it in the first place. Here are 4 tips to help you make your move less stressful.

Start packing as soon as possible.

You don’t realize how much stuff you have until you start taking it all out. So grab some boxes and supplies and start packing. Try to pack a couple boxes a day to make it more manageable.

Stay organized.

Part of the stress of moving is always feeling like you’re forgetting something. A moving checklist can help you keep track of basic tasks and important deadlines that tend to get lost in the shuffle. Download a moving app or better yet, check out our comprehensive moving checklist.

Ask for help.

If family or friends live nearby, consider asking for their assistance with meals or babysitting younger children. Their help will give you a couple hours to get a few things done interruption-free.

Use up and cut down.

For example, instead of packing all the food you own, plan meals around the food you already have in your pantry. Try to avoid doing a lot of shopping close to the move, just buy the basics (milk, eggs, bread). And give away perishable items or foods that expire soon so you have one less box to pack.

Cut corners where you can.

Prioritize essential tasks. Do only what is necessary to the move and nothing extra. A few adjustments to your expectations can go a long way to reducing your overall stress.
