Pack in stages

It’s important to anticipate the most stressful part of the move—the deadline—and prepare accordingly. So start packing as soon as you know you’re going to move. Also, make the process easier by tackling one room at a time, or set a goal to pack 3 boxes a day. A simple, manageable plan can really help minimize stress.

Change your address

It sounds obvious, but it’s an easy step to skip. Most of us remember to notify friends, family, and utility companies of our new address, but there’s always that one person who never finds out. Do yourself (and whoever moves in after you…) a favor and get your address officially changed with the postal service. You can do it for free at the post office or online for a $1 fee.
